Here is why I feel you too should embrace your beautiful pale skin! Like tankini top flowy style.
What swimwear will you wear this summer?
My current husband's first wife died of breast cancer. A big YAY for you. My last husband's mother I don't want to say former mother-in-law because she's still alive had breast cancer about 10 years ago and it never came back and she's about 90 now I'm also glad to hear that you're looking for a swimsuit.
Some of us freak out whenever we hear the word. I wish I could direct you to a good swimsuit site, but if you email me later, I may be able to help another woman someday.
Anita is a great company that makes very well made bras, undergarments and swimsuits catering to all shapes and sizes and they have a nice selection of mastectomy swim suits. They're not cheap but they are worth every penny. Your bikini collection are stunning. I am totally agree with you.
It is difficult to find find plus size dresses for old ages. I love your lovely blog. Happy to hear that. I used to wear two-piece swimsuits in my 50s I WOULD wear them if I didn't have a freaking scar going down my abdomen from a stupid surgery that I probably didn't need and didn't seem to help.
Oh well, they have cutie-patootie one-piece swimsuits these days, so it's not that bad. I'm usually in a hot tub in the dark when I'm in a swimsuit.
I don't want to scare the sharks away. I love your blog. I am also tired of hearing that older women need to cut their hair short. I am almost 53 with very curly shoulder length white hair and plan on letting it grow so I can braid it.
I wear a halter tankini and thoroughly enjoy going to the beach. My mother is 87 and still wears designer jeans and tshirts. I am going to send the link to your blog to my sisters and girlfriends so they can get a chuckle as well. Thank you so much. I'm so glad to hear about your beautiful, long white hair.
I'm glad you are taking your style into your own hands. You know yourself better than anyone on the internet or in a magazine or on TV, so don't listen to what the "style experts" say unless it sounds right to YOU. They don't know you. They've never seen you. Even worse, they may be copying bad advice that they've read in some other article. You know what looks good on you. I'm sure you look hot in your tankini and I want a picture of your long braids if you ever feel like posting it somewhere or sending it.
And, thanks so much for telling your friends and family about my site. It's just me here doing this website I really appreciate the help. Well, it's not just me doing Boomerinas. I have a few other writers who pop in from time to time. I have a husband who helps with the number crap But, I appreciate the free advertising that comes from word of mouth. I'm not sure I would consider you "older". You're still a kid.
Well, I might consider you an "older" woman if you started dating college boys I might consider your mom an "older" woman. Also, look at photos of Carmen Dell'Orefice and other older models. I can't find it right now, but there's a photo of Ms Dell'Orefice somewhere on Pinterest with long, flowing silvery hair and she's stunning. I wear tankini suits and prefer halters. I read somewhere that women are trying to look like the 8 supermodels in the world instead of the millions of just average women in the world.
I have very curly shoulder length white hair and carry a few extra pounds I know that you wrote 2 comments because the other one never showed up I'm not sure I would bare my tummy at this point in my life because it's not my fave part of my body but I have no problem with showing a bit of cleavage What I meant was I'm considering the tattoo idea. I'm not sure I want my daughters to get tattoos but I like them on other women.
What kind of tattoo would look good? What did your friend get? Hi, I know the the Ceeb Swimwear co makes mastectomy suits. I have one of their regular swimsuits and it is very well made.
They have a web site too. Thank you, MC, that will be really helpful. Mastectomies are so common these days. I don't know why, but it is much better to have one than to let the cancer spread.
There are lots of websites that copy my ideas and "borrow" my photos. So, you may very well have been to a copycat site. I always try to have original ideas. I always use photos that I'm legally allowed to use. Unfortunately, the internet is like the wild west and I can't do much about the sketchy websites that steal my articles. And, please come back. Here I am at 58 years young but I have never felt the confidence to wear a two piece swimsuit. Not even in my teens did I have that confidence.
Now here I am slightly chubby, definitely not toned and very white skin as it has never ever been exposed to the sun and suddenly a light went on for me. To heck with the world, so what if I have some chunky white skin exposed, I'm wearing a two piece!! I bought not one, not two but three!!! I will be going on a long cruise this year and baby, they are going to see me for miles wearing a very confident smile and a glow of delight on my face.
I will be wearing lots of sunscreen coverage as I know that's important. I have already had Squarmous Cell Carcinoma on the bottom half of my leg caused by Sun exposure, I was wearing long shorts at the time! So I will be cautious of that, but I do have a UV beach cover up to wear when I'm not in the pool area. As you said you only live once why live it worrying what others think about you, heck they are probably too worried about what they look like to even care and if they do, well I don't know them..
I'm going to live my life having fun!! July 7, 3: July 9, 9: July 24, July 25, 9: March 10, 2: March 15, March 10, March 16, Let me look around. Anyway, I'll email you again and try to find out about the swimsuit.
May 31, 2: June 3, 2: June 21, 6: June 23, 1: I can't find the suit. August 9, 5: August 11, 9: I was sick for several days but I will email you. September 21, September 21, 1: I use free fashion photos and these are the best I can find November 3, 5: November 4, 9: November 4, May 8, 1: Yes, I love them too — in theory. You make rethinking the boy shorts possible! They balloon up in the water then stick like glue when you get out of the water.
I have been a tanking girl for years now. Some are shorter and really tight and I feel constricted. I find the perfect suit on the rack then it has this little liner in it or those foam inserts that never stay put. Your suit looks really good on you! I have a rather athletic build, not too curvy. My friend calls me long and lean. I was wondering if the tankini would make me look too boyish? Like, hide what curves I have?
Maybe a rouched one -piece is better for me. Maybe another reader can chime in. I see a lot of women in different body shapes wearing tankinis and looking good in them.
I think they key is finding one that enhances the chest area and the booty area in the right ways. I feel like I should be more help. What type of suit do you typically wear? The last on I bought was a bikini with good coverage. Kind of large bottoms and top. Sometimes I think a bikini is OK, if the bottoms sort of come up high on the hips to accentuate what little-ish curves I have.
I do still wear a two-piece, but this is the first year ever? I do love that suit. And girl, you can rock a bikini like no other. I meant to include a few pictures under that comment I made about these sites having nice bikini options as well. I particularly like the ones at Athleta. I have a bikini. And then some bits and pieces, among them a pair of shorts.
I just am not in the water often enough haha. Alex — Funky Jungle. Thanks for the ideas. I may just try the shorts. I do like my swim skirts, but would enjoy something new. Thanks Jolynne for keeping us modest and in style! We were at the beach and the pool in Galveston last week and I was the only one I saw in a one piece! I have two now, one from Target and one from TJMaxx.
Definitely going to look for a tankini next year. I love the boy shorts from Athleta — great coverage and they stay put! Love your suit — you look great! I love your swimsuit — very cute. I struggle with larger hips and thighs that are getting so old looking! THanks for the ideas! Yes perhaps it has to do with being a larger woman but mostly I just feel extra feminine in it and I find that fun. Loved the red-orange one you shared! It I were ever to branch out and lose weight of course I would love to check out that high waist-ed number!
I think you should whatever makes you feel confident and pretty. Not that I get in the water that often, lol. My belly has seen light in quite some years either, but I really do love the high waisted bikini bottoms. I may try it someday! But I have 2 new swim suits already which I feel pretty confident in…with the cute matching cover ups!
Thanks for the link up. I would love you to stop by and join my link up as well!!! Have a wonderful holiday weekend! I actually do sort of want to try one. I guess I should just order one and try it and see what I think. Got it on sale. Looks like it is on sale now too! I think you might like Freya brand bathing suits, especially the tops as they are sold in bra sizes. Normally, a halter style would NOT provide support for me or be flattering, but being able to buy the top in my bra size 32E made it absolutely perfect!
Nordstrom carries Freya and there are styles currently on sale. Another great brand of swimwear to check out is Clover Canyon. They make stunning suits, even one-pieces.
Nothing to do with age at all in my humble opinion. But, I loved this post anyway, thank you! And I agree that the most important thing is to feel comfortable. I think I had that in my original post, and it got cut and not pasted, lol. The over 40 thing is really more for Google and Pinterest search purposes — definitely women under 40 can wear these too. Title Nine and Athleta are my go-to stores for bathing suits. I discovered several years ago that the shorts are the way to go!
I pair them with a bra-sized bikini top that has good support. I know just what you mean about the La Blanca suits. I bought one this year and it totally aged me. I sent it back. I love that it has good coverage and support while giving us smaller on top girls a boost. Good coverage, long-lasting, well -made suits that highlight an hourglass figure. Love your swimsuit post! I prefer a tankini swim suit. My favorite brand of swim suit is Profile by Gottex. The quality is exceptional and fits like a dream!
The styles are very slimming as there is a bra built right in! Size the suit by your cup and band size. Bottoms are purchased separately. The purchase will be worth the investment! Swim suits are hard! Great ideas here and I love the one you wear- stylish, bright, just looks good!
Also love Lands End for high neck, racer back tankini tops for sporty look without looking too matronly. First off, Happy Birthday!! And thank you for all the hard work with another fantastic style series. It has to be exhausting, but we are so grateful you guys do them! If I could find something to cover that, I may not be so self conscious. Thanks for the tips and links! I have to choose a top in my bra size rather than buy a set in a dress size because I need a bit of support up top!
I also prefer trying them on in my home too! I LOVE the high-waist one…. The whole time I was reading the post I was thinking it would be nice to see it live. I do a lot of bending over when I try on swim suits! I was even able to order it in an extended bra cup size! I tuck tankini into high waisted retro bottoms. At 57, nobody wants to see my belly.
I tend to carry my weight there now and they do make me feel MUCH more confident. Great tips for swim suits, women have different shapes and sizes and not all look like VS models.
Those would be flattering on pretty much everyone! Come pin your styles and stories on my WW linkup! Have a great long weekend! I just got back from a vacation in Hawaii where most girls and women wear bikinis, no matter their age, shape or size. I am 48 and have decided to accept my body for what it is, even though I have a belly and a AA cup size!
This is the only body I have, and why not just enjoy the sun and water without giving a hoot about what I look like or what anyone else thinks of me! I agree with you to a point. No one is perfect, and accepting ourselves the way we are is essential to contentment and happiness. I did that one here: Never been a fan of the skirts, but I actually did get that tie-dye scrunch skirt you posted and I like it. I should just do what you do and order a bunch at one time, instead of the orders I placed.
Swimsuits fit everyone different — you liked the scrunch shorts but when I tried them on…ick! LOL Happy 4th of July! I was just wandering the other day if I could find something similar. I agree about the boy shorts, too.
I have a black pair, and I feel like they add coverage without looking like too much. Follow me on Instagram. Subscribe get the latest updates: You May Also Like
